(2003) Songs for a Hurricane is the second co-production effort by Kris and drummer Billy Conway. Like Five Stories, the recording took place at Cambridge's Hi-n-Dry studio, the former home of Mark Sandman, the late frontman of Morphine. On this project, Billy and Kris tried to create the deep musical range of the last record with a more stripped-down band of stellar players: Billy on drums, Andrew Mazzone returning on bass, Julie Wolf (Ani DiFranco, Bruce Cockburn) on keyboards & accordion, Mark Erelli, Jabe Beyer, & Kevin Barry on electric guitars, and Kris adding touches of fiddle & cello. Once again Paul Kolderie stepped in in the home stretch to work his mixing magic. The songwriting travels across a wide landscape of styles as the diverse songs work together to tell one larger story of the arc of a storm as moves towards, through, and past the listener.
